Human Beings
04:13
|
|||
You definitely need a vacation
After the hell he put you through.
He was in clear violation
Of the house he broke into.
You were an open door.
You’d never been that way before.
You are only one.
When I looked in your eyes, dear,
I quickly said to myself:
That no matter what dies here
You won’t be put upon a shelf
Yes I may fall into repeating
We are only human beings,
And the wounds that are bleeding
Are the ones we have to free.
You were an open door.
You’d never been that way before.
You are only one.
So I turned out the lights, then,
And said “I see the face of God.”
She said, “What’s it like, then?
Is it a shake or a nod?”
(and then I said)
You definitely need a vacation
And after this whole ordeal is through
You will return to elation
And the rest will follow and ensue.
You are only one.

Every Night
03:29
|
|||
And this was the way that the game had to play out
To keep right in line with the plan.
Though my mind tells me one thing of nothing and something
I just don’t think that I can.
My heart has been beaten. I cannot believe in
A thing that goes on in the world.
And the last thing I need is to have my heart weeded out
By a beautiful girl.
It’s you I think of every night.
And it’s you that makes the dark seem bright.
But in the morning I will see the light.
It’s me that just can’t seem to get it right.
The moon shines as bright as the light in your eyes
As we’re searching around for our soul.
Hands held together in cold dirty weather
As if we knew we had control.
Just one more day please of this inconsistency
And I promise the end will arrive.
Because the stars throwing down all their light to the ground
Makes me happy just to be alive.
It’s you I think of every night.
And it’s you that makes the dark seem bright.
But in the morning I will see the light.
It’s me that just can’t seem to get it right.
Q: And you wasted your time for me.
A: (I don’t want it back even if it were mine to take)
Q: And you cried down the line for me.
A: (Those were just memories were waiting to awake)
Q: And you said you would die for me.
A: (That’s not a decision I’m willing to let you make)
Q: Are you sure that you said what you meant to say?
A:

The Thaw

I saw from your postcard you made it safely.
This cold was too much. I hope that you wait for me.
You flew over the bare and icy shores.
You wanted to believe you were meant for so much more
They said they found your car in a turnaround.
The report said you were nowhere to be found.
The distant cries are ringing true.
As my heart cries out for you.
Can you see the light in her gazes
The words that flow out from her?
Can you feel her warm breath upon you
Of everlasting summer?
Take to the rivers and take to the skies,
because it’s time to find where the true beauty lies.
There are so many miles days and years yet to come,
maybe we will still come home.
And just for the moment let’s try to forget
everything that our TVs taught us to regret
while we waited out the snow.
The first tests of freezing time
Were executed on space travelers
Searching for new worlds to inhabit
In the wake of the freeze
As we developed cryogenic sleep,
We discovered the mind replaced the pain and suffering of the cold
with thoughts of happiness and warmth.
As technology advanced,
and society disintegrated,
It became apparent that sleep was more valuable than a life of consciousness.
Hopefully, we thought,
one day they would wake us when the real world matched the beauty of our dreams.
“Dear traveller, do not think ill of us.
We are the last generation
and we are immortal.
You're ready for the thaw.

For the Birds
05:27
|

What are you doing on the shore?
You were meant for so much more.
Fly away, little bird, fly away.
What is there for you on the ground?
What is left you haven’t found?
Fly away, little bird, fly away.
You have wings, unlike I.
You were born to soar and fly.
Fly away, little bird, fly away.
The wind will take you far from here.
Far from sorrow, far from fear.
Fly away, little bird, fly away.
You thought you’d find salvation here between the sea and the sand.
Worn and old, confused and cold, yes this I understand.
What’s meant to be for you and me? You know I’d lend a hand,
But you won’t find it here no matter where you land.
I would love to come along,
But my arms just aren’t that strong.
Fly away, little bird, fly away.
Though I leave here cold and tired,
You should live your life inspired.
Fly away, little bird, fly away.

I want to take you through the mountains,
Because I know you'll love the view.
I'll bring back ice from a freezing fountain
If I can't make the trip with you.
We'll head on over to Seattle,
and taste the fish fresh from the sea.
But if you don't want to weather the battle,
Then I guess it's alright by me.
I hear it's beautiful on the Oregon coast.
I heard it once or twice in a song.
But you know the thing that I want the most
is for you to want to come along.
We'll head on down to San Francisco
and see the sunset on the bay.
I'll take some pictures if you can't go
to let you know I'm here to stay.
I hear it's beautiful on the California coast.
I heard it once or twice in a song.
But you know the thing that I want the most
is for you to want to come along.
We'll head back home through the mountains.
I'll still take pictures of the view.
Of streams and creaks and freezing fountains,
and the valleys they run through,
if I can't make the trip with you.
